“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.” –Patrick Henry
Cruz a Major Republican Let Down
He looked like his momma made him take a big spoonful of ‘cod liver oil’ as he stood before the crowd at last night’s RNC get together. What made it worse was that the New York delegates were right up front. They knew he said ‘he would not endorse Trump’. Even after Christie told him ‘needed to go through with the pledge he signed’! Somehow the Cuban-American with his Father in the audience could not bring himself to enjoy the speech he gave.
Yes, he covered the bases. Vote Republican, vote the constitution, vote it up and down the aisle. Give him a weak ‘Two star’ performance because in all, you can tell when a person is speaking from the heart or not. His heart was not in it. He came because he had too! He came because that is what you do. He came and spoke at a convention where it was Donald Trump’s night! That was the salt in the wound.
Ted Cruz, try as he might did not make a splash with the states. He did not raise anything but trouble and side with the Republican elite guard who were furious that the New York Mogul Donald Trump took it all. So mad were the Bushes, they did not come! So be it, stay home. We have had enough of the Bushes, Kennedy’s, and Clintons to last a lifetime. We want someone honest and many believed that Trumps method and way about himself revealed a heart to really change America.
“[I]t is a common observation here that our cause is the cause of all mankind, and that we are fighting for their liberty in defending our own.” –Benjamin Franklin
In the end, the New York delegation and friends shouted down Cruz some with boo’s at the end and others of ‘vote Trump’. Ted looked at the crowd, smiled meekly; and said something to the effect “I appreciate the enthusiasm of the New York delegation”! Appreciate? Is that all you can say? Apparently.
It was apparent, though from the outset; as he said in the press, he would not endorse Trump during his speech. Now I do not care one way or the other. While many would have liked to see him issue his endorsement, the truth is Ted Cruz did not get enough delegates to do any good. He is a non issue and acts more like an enemy than a Republican who wants to mend fences. What Ted did was drive a semi of bad feelings right through any apparent good will there was left.
It is noted that Ted did say “If you love our country and love your children as much as I know that you do, stand and speak and vote your conscience. Vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution.” That was it! He could not let himself say “Vote Trump”! So good riddance Ted, enjoy your retirement in Cuba. I suppose you will be like the Bushes and others, some of whom said they would ‘move’ out of this country if Trump gets elected. We know you are already packing.
Now I am not a Republican, Democrat, or Independent; but I have now watched two nights of the RNC. That will be my limit this time.
But the politics in America as far as I am concerned ‘SUCK’ and it makes me ‘SICK’ that we are so divisive and hateful one minute to each other and then kiss and make up as if the words we slap on each other in the fight don’t matter any more. Well it does matter, shame on you.
Following Cruz was the former speaker of the house, Newt Gingrich who has been busy. He stepped up and was one hundred percent for the whole of the movement. Gingrich picked up on the ‘vote your conscience’ along with the remark that Cruz advised the audience to vote for those who would ‘defend our freedom and be faithful to the constitution’.
Well Newt made a point and turned Cruz’s lack of support for Trump into a veiled comment to vote for Trump without saying ‘vote for Trump’. Gingrich told the audience he ‘thought they had missed it’, this most vital point. The former speaker of the house then took the wind out of the Cruz speech and put a lot of political spin and hot air behind it to say:
“There is only one candidate who will uphold the Constitution. So to paraphrase Ted Cruz, if you want to protect the Constitution of the United States, the only possible candidate this fall is the Trump/Pence Republican ticket. That way we have a Republican ticket to implement Republican Principles in Washington.”
Thanks Newt for polishing up the Ted Cruz intentions for us, we may not have missed it; but as it was, we never believed a word Ted Cruz said. Least wise nothing in regard to being a party player at the RNC.
So what is next for ‘Cod liver oil Cruz’, who knows but this week he became a Major Republican Let Down. He could not be a bigger man by shaking hands, endorsing Trump, and smiling like he means it. Then giving a ‘earth shaking’ speech to bring the house down. Instead, he dug his grave and jumped in it. Saying, come join me; I’m still mad at Trump who gave me a beating. But Ted, really; it wasn’t Trump who beat you, the voters simply believed him more than you. They saw in him something they believed in. As for your campaign, I don’t know, never did consider you a contender ‘Ted ole boy’.
