Noah’s Ark Returns: ‘The Largest Timber structure in the world.’ With pic’s, and two slideshows; plus information!
Standing just off one of the busiest interstates in America is I-75 on the rolling hills of Kentucky is the Ark Encounter. Just take exit 154 in Williamstown, Kentucky. The site totals 800 acres and has modern facilities, with the authentic replica of the ARK being the massive attraction.
Future additions will bring the biblical ‘Tower of Babel’ to life. Bringing Noah back to life, the animals, and the ARK itself is the project dream child of Ken Ham. He with a support group of professionals have created the biggest biblical attraction in the world, or at least I think it looks that way.
A life size, 510-foot-long Ark. Nearby: a lake, Ararat Ridge Zoo (including a petting zoo), a 1,500-seat restaurant, and a gift store under the Ark. A queue-line garden next to the Ark and an 800 to 900-seat animals & actors’ theater/multi-purpose room will be completed soon after the Ark Encounter’s opening. –Ark Encounter.

Noah’s Ark Returns: ‘The Largest Timber structure in the world: May 2016 Update
In a day and age when Christianity is dissed, ridiculed, and pushed aside in the world; literally, it is good to have such an exhibit. Yes, there are detractors like Bill Nye the science guy who says Ham and the whole project lead kids astray. He has a problem over the Genesis story of Creation. In this mix is the argument over the dinosaurs. But this is not a problem I see at all. The science world has always had problems with biblical Christianity. Science without faith is atheism and true Science is found with Faith in God and seeing his hand in the creation. I’m not going to argue over a few problems here, but suffice it to say the overall good this exhibit will do outweighs any problems by a long shot.
Noah’s Ark Returns: ‘The Largest Timber structure in the world: Spec’s
The ARK being the largest timber free standing building in the world according to Ham and his people means it is:
- The largest free-standing timber-frame building in the world: 510 feet long; 85 feet wide; 51 feet high based on the Bible’s dimensions (300 cubits long; 50 cubits wide; 30 cubits high) and using the Hebrew long cubit of 20.4 inches.
- From ground level to top of bow: 104 feet.
- 3.1 million board feet of timber was used for the Ark structure (not counting the wood in the exhibits). In board feet, that would be 612 miles, the distance between Williamstown, Kentucky, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- The Ark is built on 102 piers, each 15 feet high.
- The Ark’s keel is 12.5 feet from the ground. The roof of the Ark is 80 feet from the ground.
- A 600-seat restaurant is planned on the roof deck (it will not be opened in Phase 1 but will be ready for “fitting out” next year). –Ark Encounter.
Noah’s Ark Returns: ‘The Largest Timber structure in the world: ARK now Open!
Being a replica of the ARK here does not mean they made it the same way using the same tools or materials that Noah used. It is a replica based on the dimensions in the bible and used professionals, Amish to help construct the ARK. It is as close to the real biblical boat that Noah used that can be created in this way.
The ARK encounter phase One opened this July 7th, 2016 with an initial offering of guest timed tickets to accommodate expected visitors. This occurred over an initial promotion of 40 days and 40 nights.
